Geopark Nasional merupakan tingkatan status yang ditetapkan oleh Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) dengan terlebih dahulu mendapat rekomendasi dari Komite Nasional Geopark Indonesia (KNGI).

Penetapan Geopark Nasional memiliki tiga tujuan:
(1) mewujudkan pelestarian Geoheritage, Biodiversity, & Cultural Diversity
(2) melakukan pengawasan terhadap pelaksanaan pemanfaatan Geoheritage, Biodiversity, & Cultural Diversity
(3) menjadi dasar bagi Pengelola Geopark dalam melakukan pengelolaan Geopark Nasional

Dengan penetapan Geopark Nasional, Pengelola Geopark dapat bekerja sama dengan Kementerian, Lembaga Penelitian Perguruan Tinggi, Lembaga Internasional, Asosiasi Profesi Kegeologian, Swasta, BUMN/BUMD, dan/atau Jaringan Geopark Nasional & Internasional.

National Geoparks are a status level designated by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) after receiving recommendations from the Indonesian National Geopark Committee (KNGI).

The designation of National Geoparks has three objectives:
(1) To realize the preservation of Geoheritage, Biodiversity, and Cultural Diversity
(2) To monitor the implementation of the utilization of Geoheritage, Biodiversity, and Cultural Diversity
(3) To provide a basis for Geopark Managers in managing National Geoparks

With the designation of National Geoparks, Geopark Managers can collaborate with Ministries, Research Institutions of Higher Education, International Institutions, Professional Geological Associations, Private Sector, State-Owned Enterprises/Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMN/BUMD), and/or National & International Geopark Networks.
